GRANTHAM, Pa. - The Methodist volleyball team traveled to Messiah College on Saturday to play three non-conference matches. The Monarchs came away with two more wins to move to a 6-1 record on the year.
Methodist opened the day against Penn State Harrisburg with a 3-1 (25-13, 23-25, 25-16, 25-16) victory. Sophomore
Jalesty Washington paced the Monarchs with 12 kills while freshman
Stephanie Wood and senior
Taylor Cates had 11 a piece. Wood added seven service aces, a solo block and four block assists. Cates had four block assists. Sophomore
Kayci Miller dished out 46 assists while senior
Jordan Grady had 20 digs and sophomore
Kelsey Yates added 11 digs.
In the second match, the Monarchs won the first set, but Marymount came back to take the 3-1 win (25-15, 23-25, 19-25, 17-25). Washington led with 15 kills while Wood and Cates each had seven kills. Miller had 37 assists while Grady had 18 digs and Yates finished with 10 digs.
The Monarchs dropped the first two sets against host Messiah, but came back and won three straight to finish the day with a 3-2 (15-25, 20-25, 26-24, 25-17, 15-12) win. Washington led the Monarchs again with 13 kills while Cates and Wood balanced the attack with seven a piece. Grady paced the defense with 16 digs while sophomore
Rachel Evans had nine digs. Miller finished up with 35 assists for the Monarchs.
Methodist opens up USA South Athletic Conference play Tuesday night at Greensboro College at 7 pm.
