FERRUM, Va. - The Ferrum College women's basketball team used a 19-0 second half run to slip by the Monarchs in a USA South Athletic Conference battle.
The Monarchs (6-6, 2-3) held a six point lead with 11:21 to go in the game, but the Panthers (7-3, 3-2) scored 19 unanswered points over the next five minutes to take the 54-41 lead. Methodist freshman
Jackie Lyles stopped the run with a jumper at the 6:02 mark in the half.
The Monarchs chipped away at the lead before senior
Michaela Myers drained a 3-pointer with 34 seconds to go moving Methodist within five. Myers hit two free throws in the final seconds to cut the lead to three, but time expired with Ferrum taking the 58-55 win.
Methodist jumped out to the 12-4 lead in the first half and maintained the 27-21 advantage at halftime. Ferrum took their first lead of the game at 43-41 with 9:42 left in the second half.
Myers led the Monarchs with 14 points in the game. Junior
Adriana Wilson scored eight points and grabbed seven rebounds while senior
Dezzire Gilliard added six points with 11 rebounds.
Kristen Keith led the Panthers with 19 points.
The Monarchs will host Meredith College on Monday at 7 p.m.
