FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Methodist volleyball came out firing against Meredith on Tuesday night and cruised to the 3-0 (25-18, 25-22, 25-18) win.
Earlier in the season, Methodist lost 3-0 to the Avenging Angels, but Methodist jumped out to an early lead and finished strong to earn their fifth conference win of the season.
The Monarchs opened the first set with a 9-3 lead and led by as many seven points. Methodist finished with the 25-18 win on a kill from
Morgan Hauck. Both teams went back and forth in the second set with the game tied on 14 different occasions. Methodist went ahead 23-20 on a Meredith error before finishing with the 25-22 win on a block from
Hayley Williams.
Meredith took a 6-4 lead in the third set, but Methodist came back and went ahead 8-6 on a kill from
Stephanie Wood. The Monarchs went ahead by six on an ace by
Jalesty Washington before finishing with the 25-18 win after back-to-back kills from Wood and Washington.
Lauren Bramble led the team with 17 kills and Washington added 12 kills. Wood and Williams finished with eight kills a piece.
Kayci Miller finished with 41 assists and
Hillary McPhatter paced the team with 16 digs. Miller and Washington added 10 digs a piece.
Methodist will be back in action on Sunday when they host a USA South tri-match with Shenandoah and Averett. The Monarchs will play at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m.
