ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - After dropping the first set, Methodist volleyball won three straight to earn the 3-1 (24-26, 25-19, 26-24, 25-22) win over N.C. Wesleyan College.
The first set was tied at six before N.C. Wesleyan opened up an 11-6 lead. The Monarchs came back and tied it up at 17 on a kill from
Hayley Williams. The two teams exchanged points with the set tied again at every point 17-24 until the Bishops finished with the 24-26 win.
Methodist took the 12-7 lead in the second set and led by as many as six before finishing with the 25-19 win to tie the match at one set a piece. The third set went back and forth with the Monarchs taking the 14-10 lead before N.C. Wesleyan went ahead 20-15. The Bishops had the 24-22 advantage before Methodist scored the next four points on three kills by
Jalesty Washington and an ace from
Kayci Miller to seal the 26-24 win.
The Monarchs led by as many as four in the fourth set before N.C. Wesleyan tied it up at 20 and 21. Methodist won the match on a block by Williams and
Stephanie Wood to win 25-22.
Washington led the team with 21 kills while
Lauren Bramble added 15 and Williams finished with 14. Wood added 11 kills for the Monarchs. Miller dished out 53 assists and
Hillary McPhatter paced the team with 26 digs. Washington and Miller added 17 digs a piece.
The Monarchs are currently on a seven-game winning streak and sit in fifth place in the USA South standings. The team will finish out the regular season at home on Saturday when they host Mary Baldwin and Peace at 12 p.m. and 4 p.m.
