ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - N.C. Wesleyan scored a touchdown in each of their first six possessions to take a commanding lead and finished with the 56-6 win over Methodist University.
The Battling Bishops opened the game with an 87-yard kickoff return and after a failed two-point conversion held the 6-0 lead. Methodist was unable to get a first down during the first quarter while N.C. Wesleyan kept driving the ball into the Monarchs' territory. By the end of the quarter, the Bishops led 35-0.
N.C. Wesleyan put together another offensive drive early in the second quarter to score their sixth touchdown of the game. Methodist quarterback
John Glenn picked up a Methodist first down on a 13-yard pass to
Jason Talbert on the first play of the ensuing drive and
Corey McGuire ran for another first down, but the drive stalled forcing the Monarchs to punt.

Jesse Kane recovered a fumble on the second play of the Bishops' drive giving the ball back to the Monarchs on the N.C. Wesleyan 19-yard line. Glenn connected with Talbert again to move to the 10-yard line. The offense stumbled, but regained yardage on a six-yard pass to
Anthony Autry at the six-yard line.
John Flanagan finished the drive with a six-yard run for the touchdown. The extra point failed leaving N.C. Wesleyan with the 42-6 lead.
The Bishops countered by capitalizing on a Methodist fumble to score on a 40-yard fumble return for a touchdown and the 49-6 lead just before halftime.
The Monarchs were plagued by turnovers in the second half, but held the Bishops to just one touchdown to finish with the 56-6 loss.
Flanagan finished with 37 yards rushing while McGuire added 22 yards. Glenn was 14-for-29 passing for 94 yards with two interceptions. Talbert was the team's leading receiver with four catches for 44 yards.
Jacob Hunt and
Bradford Wade led the team defensively with eight tackles a piece.
Jordan Vann was 12-for-14 for 207 yards passing for the Bishops. McFadden ran for 85 yards while Jamal Smith finished with 76 yards.
Methodist will be back at home next Saturday when they host Greensboro College at 1 p.m.
