EMORY, Va. - The Methodist women's basketball team battled back from a 10 point deficit on two different occasions, but came up short 54-51 to Emory & Henry College on Saturday.
Neither team started strong offensively, but the Monarchs (1-1) went ahead 12-8 on a basket by
Becca Himes with 11:02 remaining in the first half. The Wasps (1-1) went ahead 25-15 in the final five minutes of the period, but Methodist closed the gap to seven at halftime.
The Monarchs opened the second half on an 11-2 run capped off by a 3-pointer from
Emily Huneycutt to take the 31-29 lead. Emory & Henry regained a 10 point lead at 50-40, but a 9-0 run by Methodist brought the team back within one with 3:14 on the clock. Methodist fought to regain the lead, but the Wasps held on for the 54-49 win.
Dawn Sanderson led the team with 12 points and six rebounds while
Iesha Hayes and
Jordan Tyson added 10 points a piece. #T.T. Taylor# paced the team with nine rebounds.
The Monarchs will be back in action at Emory & Henry on Sunday when they take on Lynchburg College at 1 p.m.
