FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Maryville capitalized on Methodist turnovers to earn the 62-44 win in the second game of the Cross Creek InnKeeper Turkey Shootout.
Methodist came out strong leading the 9-4 lead on a jumper by
Iesha Hayes. Maryville took their first lead at 15-13 with 11:05 to play. The game was tied on four different occasions over the next five minutes before the Scots closed the half on a 12-4 run to lead 34-26 at the break.
Maryville opened up a 12 point lead early in the second half, but the Monarchs battled back to cut the lead to seven on a layup by
Dawn Sanderson with 13:53 to play. The Scots came right back and built a 20 point advantage at 55-35. Methodist turnovers proved costly as Maryville finished with the 62-44 win.
Sanderson led the team with 13 points and nine rebounds. #T.T. Taylor# added eight points.
The Monarchs will be back in action tomorrow when they host LaGrange at 3 p.m. LaGrange defeated Virginia Wesleyan 73-60 in the first game of the classic.
