Greensboro Holds On For 58-43 Win

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - After trailing by 10 at halftime, Methodist came out firing to start the second half, but Greensboro held on for the 58-43 win.

Methodist (2-4, 0-1) opened up a quick 6-2 lead over the Pride in the first two minutes of action. Greensboro came back and tied the game at six. The score was tied again at eight and 10 before the Pride went on an 11-0 run to take control. Greensboro held the 30-20 advantage at the break.

The Monarchs' Emily Huneycutt came out firing in the second half and scored eight straight points on two 3-pointers and a layup to cut the Greensboro lead to two points. The Pride reopened an eight point lead on free throws by Danielle Duncan, but Methodist's Iesha Hayes responded with a 3-pointer at the other end. With five minutes remaining in the game Greensboro held the 50-40 lead and after Methodist was forced to foul late, the Pride finished with the 58-43 win.

Huneycutt paced the Monarchs with 12 points while Jackie Lyles was just shy of the double-double with nine points and 11 rebounds.

Duncan led the Pride with 22 points while Chevena Pickard scored 12 points and Nikki Wilborn added 11 points.

Methodist will be back in action on Friday when they travel to Guilford College for a 7 p.m. tip-off.
