FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Methodist women's basketball team won their second USA South Athletic Conference game of the year with a 65-37 victory over Mary Baldwin College on Sunday.
Methodist (4-5, 2-1) jumped out to the 17-7 lead on a jumper by
Emily Huneycutt with eight minutes remaining in the first half. The Monarchs led by as many as 14 in the half and the Squirrels (2-6, 0-3) trailed 25-15 at halftime.
The Monarchs dominated the second half with contributions from multiple players. A fastbreak layup from
Cynthia Jones extended the lead to 25 points with 6:15 to play in the game. Two free throws by
Kaneshia James helped the Monarchs to finish with the 65-37 win.
Jackie Lyles led the Monarchs with 17 points.
Kayla Thompson added eight points. Lyles,
Dawn Sanderson and
Becca Himes paced the team with seven rebounds apiece.
Ericka Brown led Mary Baldwin with 14 points.
Methodist will be back in action on Friday when they travel to Piedmont College for a 2 p.m. tip-off.
