Monarchs Fall Short to Ferrum

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Methodist women took the early lead against Ferrum, but the Panthers came back to win 76-68 on Monday night.

The Monarchs (11-9, 7-6) came out firing in the first half and jumped out to the 10-4 lead with a layup from junior Dawn Sanderson. Ferrum (13-5, 8-4) came back to move within one point at 22-21, but the Monarchs regained the three point lead. The Panthers finished the half strong to take the 33-30 lead.

Methodist regained the lead on a layup from freshman Jackie Lyles during the first minute of the second half. Senior Michaela Myers drained back-to-back 3-pointers to put the Monarchs up 44-35 with 16:42 to go in the game. Ferrum went on a 12-2 run to move ahead 47-46. The Panthers extended their lead to as many as 11 points before the Monarchs worked back into it. Myers hit another three to move within three with 2:51 on the clock, but Ferrum hit free throws down the stretch to hold on for the 76-68 win.

Myers finished with 25 points to pace the Monarchs while junior Adriana Wilson finished with 22 points after scoring 19 in the first half. Senior Dezzire Gilliard pulled in 12 rebounds.

Tonya Wright led Ferrum with 20 points while Kristen Keith scored 19.

The Monarchs will host Peace on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
