Methodist Women Run by Peace 70-58

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - It was a tight game early, but Methodist pulled away late to win 70-58 over Peace College.

The game started out back and forth with Peace (7-11, 3-9) earning the 11-6 advantage with 13:18 to play in the half. Methodist (12-9, 8-6) responded with a 20-4 run to take the 11 point lead with 6:04 remaining. The Monarchs extended their lead to as many as 16 points before taking the 39-27 lead into the locker room at the break.

The Pacers scored the first basket of the second half, but Methodist had baskets from junior Dawn Sanderson and senior Michaela Myers to move ahead 44-29 in the first five minutes. Methodist hit free throws down the stretch to take their largest lead of the game at 68-47 with 4:11 on the clock. The Monarchs finished with the 70-58 win.

Myers led the Monarchs with 15 points while freshman Jackie Lyles scored 12 points and senior Dezzire Gilliard and Sanderson added 11 a piece. Freshman #T.T. Taylor# scored eight points with 10 rebounds and four blocks in the win.

Peace finished with three players in double figures paced by Angel Fuller and Leanne Horne with 14 a piece.

The Monarchs are scheduled to travel to Averett on Saturday for a 2 p.m. tip-off.
