PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. - The Methodist softball team rallied against Mount Union but lost 4-3 before dropping a 7-0 game to Ithaca.
Mount Union jumped out to an early 4-0 lead through the first three innings before the Monarchs got on the board with two runs in the fourth inning.
Darci Martin led off the inning reaching on an error and after a single from
Crystal Metzger and a walk to
Kristina Wolfrom,
Alex Winters hit a RBI single to score Martin.
Katie Scheller drew a bases loaded walk to score Metzger to cut the lead to two runs.
Katie Byrd hit a RBI-double in the fifth to move the Monarchs within one in the fifth but the Mount Union defense shut down Methodist to take the 4-3 win.
Metzger finished 2-for-2 and Winters went 2-for-3.
Alex Bass took the loss in 2.0 innings pitched while
Heather Anderson finished in relief.
Ithaca pitcher Allison Greaney held the Monarchs to just two hits in the second game of the day to hold the Monarchs scoreless. The Bombers scored a run in the first and fourth innings before breaking out in five runs in the fifth inning to take the 7-0 win.
Jordan Adams and Winters had a hit a piece for the Monarchs.
Emily Beck earned the loss in the circle with two strikeouts in four innings.
Lysuelle Slaughter finished in relief.
The Monarchs will take on Gustavus Adolphus Saturday morning before entering pool play in the NFCA Challenge.
