PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. - The Methodist softball team dropped an 8-0 game to Gustavus Adolphus before falling 14-2 to Denison.

The Monarchs finished the first round of the NFCA Challenge with an 8-0 loss to Gustavus Adolphus. Methodist opened up the first with runners on second and third, but it was Gustavus Adolphus who scored first with a run in the bottom of the first. The Gusties took control with five runs in the second before adding a run in the third and fourth to take the 8-0 win.

Kimber Hall was 2-for-2 for the Monarchs. Katie Scheller and Cortney Kerns added a hit a piece. Lysuelle Slaughter pitched the first three innings while Alex Bass finished in relief.

After the conclusion of the afternoon games, the teams were split into brackets for pool play with the Monarchs seeded in the Bronze Bracket. Methodist took on Denison in the first round. The Big Red took the early lead after scoring a run in the second and adding three in the third. Denison tacked on three runs in the fourth to take the 7-0 lead.

Courtney Blann led off the bottom of the fourth with a single and Scheller drew the walk. Hall advanced both runners and a two-RBI single from Kerns scored Blann and Scheller. The Big Red came back with seven runs in the fifth to finish with the 14-2 win.

Natalie Drum and Katie Byrd went 2-for-3 from the plate. Heather Anderson pitched 3.0 innings with two strikeouts. Emily Beck pitched 1.2 innings and Slaughter finished in relief.

The Monarchs will play the loser of La Verne and Transylvania on Sunday at 8:30 am.
