PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. - The Methodist softball team really got its offense going on Sunday with a 15-10 loss to La Verne before finishing off with a 9-7 win over Muskingum.
La Verne jumped out to the early 9-0 lead in the first two and a half innings, but Methodist got on the board in the third inning with RBI from
Natalie Drum,
Katie Byrd and
Kimber Hall. La Verne responded with an unearned run in the top of the fourth, but the Monarchs came back with a seven-run inning. Methodist let loose with seven hits with RBI from six different players to tie the game at 10. Neither team could score in the fifth and sixth innings and it was La Verne who broke the tie with five runs in the seventh to win 15-10.
Jordan Adams was 3-for-4 in the game and
Katie Scheller was 2-for-2. Hall and
Christina Selbe had two RBI a piece.
Alex Bass started in the circle with relief from
Heather Anderson and
Lysuelle Slaughter.
It was Methodist who took the early lead over Muskingum in the final game of the day.
Cortney Kerns led off with a walk, stole second and moved to third on a sacrifice from Adams before scoring on a RBI single from
Crystal Metzger. The Monarchs added a run in the second after
Darci Martin scored on a RBI single from
Alyssa Hara.
Methodist had another seven-run inning in the third with seven hits and capitalizing on two defensive errors. Martin hit a two-run home run and Adams had a bases-clearing double to go along with RBI from
Jody Eyler and Metzger. Leading 9-0, Muskingum came back and scored seven runs, but it was not enough as Methodist prevailed 9-7.
Eyler finished 2-for-3 while Metzger, Byrd, Martin and Selbe added two hits a piece.
Bass earned the win scattering 10 hits in 6.0 innings with six strikeouts. Anderson finished in relief.
The Monarchs will open USA South action on Wednesday when they host N.C. Wesleyan in a doubleheader set to begin at 2 p.m.
