Monarchs Drop Two at Berry

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - The Methodist volleyball team dropped two matches on Friday in the first day of the Berry Invitational. The Monarchs lost to Mississippi 1-3 (22-25, 25-22, 27-29, 20-25) and fell to host Berry 0-3 (8-25, 17-25, 22-25).

In the first match for the Monarchs, three Mississippi players finished in double figures in the dig column. With all four sets decided by five points or less, the Monarchs tied the match at one set a piece before Mississippi won the next two to earn the victory. Jalesty Washington led Methodist with 11 kills, while Ryanne Greer tied for match-high honors with 16 digs and Hillary McPhatter and Kristen Robinson added 13 apiece.

Berry College came out swinging in the final match of the night winning the first set quickly. The Monarchs battled back to put up a fight in the next two sets, but the Vikings finished with the sweep. Jalesty Washington led Methodist with 15 kills.

The Monarchs will be back in action at Berry on Saturday when they take on LaGrange College at 1 p.m. and Covenant College at 3 p.m.
