DANVILLE, Va. - The Methodist volleyball team barreled through a 3-0 (25-18,25-14,25-9) win over Shenandoah before falling to Averett 0-3 (21-25, 23-25, 18-25).

Methodist got better every set against Shenandoah winning the first set 25-18 before taking the second set with four service aces. It was all Methodist in the third set as Ryanne Greer served eight points for the Monarchs.

Hillary McPhatter led the Monarchs with 10 kills in the match while Stephanie Wood hit .500 for the three sets with eight kills and just one error. Kayci Miller finished with 33 assists and #Ryanne Greer added 10 digs.

The Monarchs started the first set against Averett with a 6-1 lead behind the serving of Lauren Bramble. Averett went on a late 8-0 run to take over with the 21-25 win. Methodist held the 14-7 lead again in the second set before the Cougars pulled ahead 22-23. Bramble earned a kill to tie the game at 23, but Averett scored the next two points to win 23-25. The Cougars pulled away early in the third set and Methodist tried to make a late run, but Averett finished with the 18-25 win.

Bramble finishd with a team-high eight kills and 12 digs and Miller added 23 assists. Greer finished with 11 digs for Methodist.

The Monarchs will be back in action at Christopher Newport on Sunday with matches against the Captains and the Ferrum Panthers.
