NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Methodist volleyball team earned their second split of the weekend after taking a 0-3 (14-25, 7-25, 12-25) loss to Christopher Newport and sweeping Ferrum 3-0 (25-16, 25-9, 25-18).
Eleventh ranked Christopher Newport hosted the quad-match and Methodist played with them early holding the 10-8 lead midway through the match. The Captains took over late with a 10-0 run to spur them onto the 14-25 win. Christopher Newport jumped out to the 14-1 lead in the second set and cruised to the win. Methodist fought back in the third set trailing 10-8, but Christopher Newport prevailed to win the match.
Stephanie Wood led the team with five kills and
Kayci Miller had 16 assists and eight digs.
The Monarchs bounced back against Ferrum and swept the Panthers in three sets. Methodist led throughout the first set and finished with the 25-16 win.
Ryanne Greer started the second set serving and helped the Monarchs to a 7-0 lead with two aces. She picked up her third ace later in the set as Methodist finished with the 25-9 win. Ferrum battled in the third set, but the Monarchs held on for the 25-18 win.
Wood paced the team again with 13 kills while Miller finished with 36 assists. Greer added 16 digs and finished with five service aces.
The Monarchs will be back in action at Meredith on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
