STAUNTON, Va. - Methodist volleyball opened up with a 3-0 (25-11, 25-13, 25-16) win over Mary Baldwin before falling 2-3 (25-19, 26-28, 21-25, 25-21, 11-15) to Peace.
In the first set against the Squirrels, the Monarchs were behind 5-2 early before going on an 8-0 run to take the lead.
Hayley Williams helped Methodist finish with the 25-11 win with the final kill. The Monarchs went on another run midway through the second set to help them cruise to the 25-13 win. Mary Baldwin battled through the third set, but Methodist finished the three-set sweep with two aces from
Ryanne Greer.
Jalesty Washington led the team with 13 kills while Williams added nine.
Kayci Miller finished with 28 assists and
Hillary McPhatter paced the Monarchs with six assists.
Methodist and Peace traded sets with the Monarchs earning the first set win 25-19. Methodist had a chance to clinch the second set at 24-23, but Peace battled back to earn the 26-28 win. The Monarchs fell behind early in the third set before falling 21-25. Methodist pulled away late in the fourth set behind the serving of McPhatter to force the fifth set at 25-21. The Pacers scored the first five points leaving Methodist unable to catch up and Peace secured the win at 11-15.
Lauren Bramble led the Monarchs with 18 kills while Washington added 10. Miller had 37 assists and Greer finished with 24 digs.
The Monarchs will host N.C. Wesleyan on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
