FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Methodist volleyball team opened their season with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-12, 25-12) win over Agnes Scott College.
The Monarchs fed off of a supportive crowd to jump out to the 4-0 lead in the first set backed by the serving of
Hillary McPhatter. Methodist built up an 11 point lead at 21-10 with a kill from
Brittany McCoy. The Monarchs finished with the 25-18 win.
Agnes Scott hung around early in the second set, but after a tied 7-7 set, the Monarchs scored five straight points.
Jalesty Washington added three consecutive service aces to give Methodist the 17-9 advantage. The Monarchs finished strong for the 25-12 win.
The Scotties scored the first two points of the third set, but Methodist bounced back with six straight. The Monarchs cruised to the 25-12 win to secure the three-set sweep.
McPhatter led the Monarchs with eight kills in her first match with the team. Washington added seven kills and four aces while
Stephanie Wood had six kills.
Kayci Miller dished out 25 assists and
Kristen Robinson led the team with nine digs.
The Monarchs will take on Philadelphia Biblical at 2 p.m. on Saturday before facing Sweet Briar at 6 p.m. in the final match of the Labor Day Invitational.
