FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Methodist volleyball team finished with two 3-0 victories on Saturday to finish the weekend undefeated. Methodist won 3-0 (25-21, 25-18 25-21) over Philadelphia Biblical and 3-0 (25-21, 25-15, 25-14) against Sweet Briar.
The first set against Philadelphia Biblical was tied on 11 different occasions with neither team able to pull away until the Monarchs capitalized late and finished with the 25-21 win. The Crimson Eagles took the early lead in the second set, but Methodist went on a 7-2 run to take the 21-16 lead.
Hayley Williams finished the set with a service ace for the 25-18 win. Methodist battled from behind in the third set as well before prevailing with the 25-21 victory for the match.
Jalesty Washington led the team with 12 kills while
Stephanie Wood added 11.
Kayci Miller had 40 assists and
Kristen Robinson finished with 11 digs.
In the final match of the weekend, Methodist took on Sweet Briar. The score was tied at 6-6 early, before the Monarchs scored the next nine straight to take a significant lead. The Vixen battled back to within three on three different occasions before the Monarchs finished with the 25-21 win. The Monarchs dominated the second and third sets with team hitting percentages of .333 and .321 to win 25-15 and 25-14.
Hillary McPhatter led with 13 kills and Washington added 11. Miller contributed 36 assists while Robinson added 14 digs in the win.
The Monarchs will use the week to prepare for the Berry College Invitational Friday and Saturday.
