STAUNTON, Va. - The Methodist University women's basketball team was trailing midway through the second half but rallied down the stretch to prevail 62-50 over Mary Baldwin College.
Mary Baldwin opened with a 9-4 lead, but Methodist's
Dawn Sanderson tied the game at nine on a traditional 3-point play after a steal from
Emily Huneycutt. The Squirrels regained a six point lead, but Methodist closed the gap to trail by one at halftime.
Free throws were a difference maker in the second half as the Monarchs (7-7, 5-2) went 15-for-20 from the charity stripe. Methodist took the lead early, but both teams exchanged baskets through the first 11 minutes. The score was tied at 48 with 8:51 remaining before Methodist closed the game on a 14-2 run to win the game 62-50.
Iesha Hayes led the team with 14 points while #T.T. Taylor
notched a double-double with 12 points and 16 rebounds. Jackie Lyles# added 11 points.
Sabrina Desper paced the Squirrels with 13 points.
Methodist will be back in action on Monday when they host N.C. Wesleyan at 5:30 p.m.
