FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Methodist women's basketball team overcame a slow start Thursday night to earn the 60-42 win over Peace College.
Neither team started strong offensively with Methodist (5-6, 3-1) scoring their first points of the game on free throws from
Jordan Tyson nearly seven minutes into the first half. Tyson scored another free throw, but Peace (4-6, 0-4) took the 10-3 lead.
Becca Himes scored the Monarchs' first basket of the game with 10:56 to play sparking a 10-2 run to help Methodist take the 13-12 lead. The Monarchs let their defense create the offense giving them a 25-17 lead at the break.
Methodist controlled the second half and took a 21 point lead on a 3-pointer from
Iesha Hayes with 4:14 on the clock. Peace closed the gap to 16, but the Monarchs finished with the 60-42 win to earn their third USA South win of the season.
Dawn Sanderson led the Monarchs with 16 points all coming in the second half to go along with eight rebounds.
Jackie Lyles and #T.T. Taylor
added eight points a piece while Kayla Thompson# dished out five assists.
Angel Fuller paced Peace with 11 points and Katelyn Bradley added seven.
Methodist will be back in action on Saturday when they host Ferrum College at 2 p.m.
