FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Methodist held the 33-26 lead at haltfime, but Ferrum came from behind to earn the 71-64 win and remain undefeated in the USA South Athletic Conference.
Ferrum (9-2, 5-0) opened up with the 11-6 lead before Methodist went on a 8-0 run to take over control. Methodist went ahead by five, but the Panthers came back and tied the game at 21. The Monarchs rebuilt their lead to hold the 33-26 lead at halftime after an offensive rebound and layup by Breanna Robinson.
The Monarchs held the 38-30 lead early in the second half, but Ferrum started chipping away at the lead to tie the game at 42. The game was tied again at 50 with 7:10 to play before the Panthers started to pull away. With 1:46 remaining Ferrum drained the 3-pointer to extend their lead to nine. The Monarchs responded with a layup from
Emily Huneycutt, but the Panthers hit free throws down the stretch to earn the 71-64 win.
Dawn Sanderson led the team with 16 points and Huneycutt added 14 points.
Jackie Lyles scored 13 points and added 15 rebounds for a double-double.
Methodist will be back in action on Monday when they travel to Meredith for a 7 p.m. tip-off.
