GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Methodist volleyball competed against Christopher Newport University and Ferrum College for the second time in nine days earning the same result.
The Monarchs dropped their first match to Christopher Newport in three sets, 15, 18 and 9. The Captains used a 9-0 run midway through the first set to secure the 25-15 win. Methodist and CNU were tied at eight in the second set, but the Captains went on a 7-1 run to take control. The Monarchs cut the lead to five on two different occasions, but Christopher Newport finished with the 25-18 win. It was all Captains in the third set as they cruised to the 25-9 win.
Jalesty Washington led the Monarchs with seven kills while
Stephanie Wood added six kills.
Kayci Miller dished out 22 assists and
Kalie Ludvigsen had a team-high eight digs.
In the second match, Methodist dominated Ferrum 3-0 (25-3, 25-20, 25-12). The first set was all Monarchs as the team opened a 7-0 lead and closed the match on a 14-0 run to secure the 25-3 win. The Panthers came back and led 16-12 in the second set, but Methodist came back with a 6-0 run thanks in part to three aces by
Hayley Williams. The third set was tied early at seven, but the Monarchs finished strong at 25-12.
Stephanie Wood led the team with 10 kills while
Brittany McCoy added seven kills. The Monarchs hit .464 for the match while
Kayci Miller had 21 assists and
Rachel Evans finished with a team-high seven digs.
The Monarchs will be back in action Oct. 7-8 at Roanoke College's Maroon Classic.
