Methodist Sweeps Pride at Breast Cancer Awareness

Monarchs recognized breast cancer survivors during the match

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Methodist volleyball team hosted a Breast Cancer Awareness match on Thursday night as they swept the Greensboro Pride 3-0 (25-11, 25-20, 25-23).

The Monarchs jumped out to the early 3-0 lead in the first set and never trailed as they took the 25-11 win. Methodist controlled the second set and even held off a late rally from the Pride to win 25-20. The third set was tied at seven early. Greensboro used a 7-0 run to lead 14-9. The Monarchs battled back to tie it up at 17. The set was even at each of the next four points before the Monarchs went ahead 23-21 and finished with the 25-23 win.

Lauren Bramble led the team with 12 kills while Stephanie Wood and Jalesty Washington had eight apiece. Washington actually moved into second on the Methodist list for career kills with 1,262. Kayci Miller dished out 34 assists while Rachel Evans paced the team with nine digs.

In between the second and third sets, Methodist recognized five breast cancer survivors. The team hosted a silent auction and accepted donations to present to the Cape Fear Valley Health Foundation Friends of the Cancer Center.

The Monarchs will take the weekend off before traveling to Meredith on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. match.
