Monarchs Outlast Meredith 3-1

RALEIGH, N.C. - The Methodist volleyball team opened up with the first set win and finished off with the final two to win 3-1 (25-15, 21-25, 25-22, 25-17) at Meredith College.

The Monarchs took care of business in the first set coming from behind and using a 7-0 run midway through the set to win 25-15. Methodist trailed early in the second set and came back to lead 9-8. It was tied on nine different occasions, but the Angels finished with the 25-21 win to tie the match at one. The third set went back and forth again with it all tied up at 21 and 22. Methodist took the 23-22 advantage forcing Meredith to call a timeout. The Monarchs won the next two points finishing it off with a kill by Lauren Bramble for the 25-22 win. Methodist came out firing in the fourth set and jumped out to a 5-1 lead before Meredith came back to lead 11-9. The Monarchs called a timeout and went on a 12-2 run to take control. Meredith cut the lead to seven, but the Monarchs finished with the 25-17 win.

Jalesty Washington and Brittany McCoy paced the team with 13 kills apiece. Washington also added 15 digs while Kayci Miller had 39 assists and 12 digs. Rachel Evans added 11 digs for the Monarchs.

Methodist will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to Averett University to take on the Cougars and Shenandoah University in a USA South tri-match.
