FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Methodist took a 2-1 lead over N.C. Wesleyan, but the Bishops came back and won the fourth and fifth sets to upend the Monarchs 3-2 (25-20, 20-25, 21-25, 25-22, 15-12).
The first set was close early before N.C. Wesleyan pulled away midway through the set with a 15-11 lead. The Monarchs came back and tied it up at 16, but the Bishops came back to win 25-20. N.C. Wesleyan jumped out to the 7-1 lead, but Methodist crawled their way back and tied it up at 15 with an ace by
Rachel Evans. The Monarchs took control and finished with the 25-20 win. Methodist dominated the third set and won 25-21 with a kill by
Stephanie Wood. Methodist looked to take the match in the fourth set and held the 10-5 lead early, but the Bishops came back and evened the score at 14. The set was tied again at 22, but N.C. Wesleyan won the next three points to win 25-22. The fifth set went back and forth before it was tied at 12. Methodist faltered late and N.C. Wesleyan won 15-12.
Wood led the Monarchs with 18 kills while
Jalesty Washington added 14 kills.
Hayley Williams and
Lauren Bramble had 11 apiece.
Rachel Evans paced the team with 29 digs while
Kayci Miller dished out 57 assists with 17 digs.
Kalie Ludvigsen added 17 digs.
The Monarchs will be back in action at Peace on Saturday when they take on Mary Baldwin and Peace.
