Box Score DECATUR, Ga. - The Methodist women's basketball team outlasted Agnes Scott College Saturday afternoon thanks in part to 24 points from the free throw line in a 45-40 win.
The Monarchs (2-0) took a 14-9 lead midway through the first half, but the Scotties (2-1) came back and tied it up at 17-17.
Jackie Lyles hit two free throws in the final minute of the first half to give Methodist the 24-21 advantage before Agnes Scott's Kimberly Reeves hit her first of two free throws to cut the lead to two at halftime. The Monarchs shot 68 percent from the free throw line in the first half hitting 17-of-25 shots.
The Scotties opened the second half on an 8-1 run to lead 30-25, but Methodist responded with a run of their own to lead 35-32 after a basket by
Jordan Tyson. The Monarchs led by as many as six points before holding on for the 45-40 win.
Lyles notched a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds.
T.T. Taylor and
Jordan Tyson scored seven points and grabbed six rebounds apiece.
Genefine Sapateh led Agnes Scot with 12 points.
Methodist will be back in action on Sunday when they travel to Piedmont College for a 2 p.m. tip-off.
