Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Methodist women's basketball team bounced back from a loss on Saturday to upend the St. Mary's College Seahawks 57-48 in the final game of the InnKeeper Turkey Shootout.
St. Mary's (1-4) opened up with an early lead, but
Jackie Lyles converted a layup and the free throw to give Methodist the 12-10 lead with 14:45 on the clock. The Monarchs went five minutes without a basket late in the half, but
Emily Huneycutt stopped the drought with a layup and the Monarchs never trailed as they took a 28-22 lead into the locker room at halftime.
The Seahawks cut the lead to two at 32-30, but Lyles responded with a basket at the other end and
Courtney Woods' jumper extended the lead back to six. The Monarchs (3-2) took over down the stretch and took their largest lead of the game at 55-42. Methodist finished with the 57-48 win.
Lyles led the Monarchs with 14 points and nine rebounds.
Christina Schrader added 12 points and eight rebounds while
Jordan Tyson finished with 12 points and seven boards. The Monarchs combined to out rebound the Seahawks 57-48.
Shana Lewis led St. Mary's with 21 points and six rebounds.
Methodist will be back in action on Wednesday when they open USA South Athletic Conference action at home against Greensboro College at 7 p.m.
