RALEIGH, N.C. - Meredith didn't go away quietly, but Methodist edged the Angels 70-60 to earn the win and the season sweep on Sunday.
The Monarchs took the early 8-2 lead on back-to-back 3-pointers from
Iesha Hayes, but Meredith came back to tie the game at 10.
Emily Huneycutt hit three free throws with 4:31 to play giving Methodist their largest lead of the game at 32-19. The Angels closed the half on a 5-0 run, but trailed 32-24 at the break.
Meredith moved within four points midway through the second half, but Methodist went on a 12-1 run to take a 15 point lead with 3:08 left to play. The Monarchs finished 8-for-9 from the free throw line in the final three minutes to earn the 70-60 win.
Jackie Lyles led the team with 22 points and nine rebounds. Huneycutt finished with 11 points and
Dawn Sanderson added 10 points.
The Monarchs will finish the regular season on the road next weekend at Christopher Newport on Friday and Shenandoah on Saturday.
