NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Nationally ranked Christopher Newport used a 37-7 halftime lead to cruise to the 75-28 victory over the Methodist women's basketball team.

The Captains (21-3, 15-2) opened up with the 10-0 lead before Dawn Sanderson got the Monarchs (13-11, 11-6) on the board with a jumper with 16:45 to play. Christopher Newport came right back with a 21-0 run before Christina Schrader scored on the assist from Iesha Hayes. Hayes followed up with a 3-pointer, but the Captains finished the half with the 37-7 advantage.

The Monarchs played a much better second half putting 21 points up on the board. T.T. Taylor sparked some offense with a 3-pointer and Dawn Sanderson came up with a traditional 3-point play after getting fouled on a layup. The Captains maintained control of the game and finished with the 75-28 win.

Sanderson paced the team with 11 points and seven rebounds while Hayes added eight points. Chelsie Schweers led CNU with a game-high 25 points.

The Monarchs will finish the regular season on Saturday at Shenandoah with a 4 p.m. tip-off.
