Monarchs Shut Out Greensboro

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Methodist volleyball team opened USA South Athletic Conference action on Wednesday night with a 3-0 (27-25, 25-18, 25-10) win at Greensboro College.

After Greensboro jumped out to a quick lead in the first set, Methodist (6-1, 1-0) took control and held the 13-9 advantage. The Pride came back and tied the set at 16. Both teams went back and forth exchanging points with Methodist holding set point at 24-23 before winning 27-25. Neither team could pull away in the second set with the score tied early and often. Methodist took the 18-15 advantage forcing a Greensboro timeout and never looked back. After taking the largest lead of the set at 23-18, the Pride called another timeout and the Monarchs finished with an ace from Hayley Williams and a kill by Lauren Bramble to win 25-18. It was Methodist who jumped out to the early lead in the second set scoring the first nine points. Greensboro called a timeout and put two points on the board, but Methodist controlled the play winning 25-10.

Stephanie Wood and Bramble led the team with eight kills apiece. Kayci Miller dished out 22 assists and 11 digs while Rachel Evans added 10 digs.

The Monarchs will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to Winchester, Va. to play Shenandoah University and Averett University.
