Methodist Women Outlast Meredith 77-69

Box Score RALEIGH, N.C. - The Methodist women's basketball team opened up with a 10-0 lead over Meredith College and never looked back as they cruised to the 77-69 win.

Christina Schrader scored the first basket of the game and the Monarchs went up 10-0 before the Angels scored their first basket of the game with 16:40 left in the first half. The Monarchs extended their lead to 13 points at 21-8 with a 3-pointer from Courtney Woods before taking their largest lead of the game at 34-18 after a basket by Chaunelle Yokley. Meredith closed the half on a 9-2 run to trail 36-27 at the break.

The Angels opened the second half with a 3-pointer to move within six points, but that was as close as they would get as Methodist went back up by 13 points. Meredith started fouling during the final minute, but the Monarchs maintained their composure to finish with the 77-69 win.

Jackie Lyles scored 19 points and 18 rebounds while Iesha Hayes added another 19 points and six rebounds. Christina Schrader scored 12 points for Methodist.

Megan Rahn paced the Angels with 28 points.

Methodist will be back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Greensboro College for a 7 p.m. tip-off.
