Box Score STAUNTON, Va. - The Methodist women's basketball team wrapped up their weekend road trip with a 61-48 USA South Athletic Conference win over Mary Baldwin College.
Methodist (6-6, 3-2) jumped out to the quick 12-4 lead through the first three minutes. The Monarchs finished the half on 10-0 run before Mary Baldwin (3-5, 1-4) snuck in a 3-pointer late. Methodist maintained the 43-27 lead at halftime before opening up a 20 point lead midway through the second half on a jumper by
Iesha Hayes. The Squirrels got things going late as they went on a 12-0 run of their own. The Monarchs stumbled through the seven minute drought with four turnovers and went 0-for-10 from the field before
T.T. Taylor scored to stop the run with 2:55 remaining in the game. The Monarchs finished strong to take the 61-48 win.
Jackie Lyles scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for her second double-double in as many days. Hayes added 10 points while
Emily Huneycutt, Taylor and
Jordan Tyson finished with seven points apiece. Taylor also had 10 rebounds and five steals.
Sabrina Desper paced the Squirrels with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Methodist returns to the Riddle Center to host Peace College on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. in their next action.
