FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Methodist volleyball team dropped its first match in over three weeks, falling 3-0 to N.C. Wesleyan on Wednesday evening at the Riddle Center.
The Monarchs (11-6, 0-1 USA South) fell to the Battling Bishops (12-6, 3-0 USA South) 25-15, 25-21, 25-19. The loss ended an eight-match winning streak for Methodist, while N.C. Wesleyan won its eighth straight, having last lost, 3-2, to the Monarchs on Sept. 18.
Senior
Stephanie Wood led the Methodist offense with 11 kills and hit .455 for the match. Junior
Risa Smith added six kills and junior
Allison Graves and senior
Hayley Williams totaled five kills apiece as N.C. Wesleyan kept the MU offense in check much of the evening. Wood and Graves also added two service aces apiece.
Junior
Kendra Krupp totaled 25 assists and defensively, the Monarchs were led by freshman
Karly Klimas, who totaled 10 digs. Krupp and sophomore
Ryanne Greer each added nine digs and Williams had four blocks, including two solo.
For the Battling Bishops, Anna hart was one of two players to exceed 10 kills with a team-high 11. Meredith Hart added 10 kills and Taylor Johnson had seven. Kristi Lucas led the way with 31 assists and Shana Ayers paced the defense with 23 digs. Hart added eight digs and six blocks.
The Monarchs return to the court on Saturday when the travel to Christopher Newport to take on the Captains and LaGrange. Methodist's first match, against LaGrange, is slated to begin at 2:00 pm.
