Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Methodist women's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to Meredith on Friday afternoon at the Monarch Soccerplex.
The Avenging Angels (9-3-0, 5-1-0 USA South) tallied three goals in six-minute stretch midway through the second half to pull away in what had been a tightly-contested affair to that point.
Jessie Davis began the scoring with an unassisted tally at the 57:41 mark when she dribbled in on Methodist freshman goalkeeper
Taylor Ross and slotted a shot into the back of the net.
Less than three minutes later, the Avenging Angels made it 2-0 in their favor when Rachel Didier fed Kimberly Williams for a goal at the 60:33 mark. The scoring continued in rapid succession as Meredith scored its third and final goal at the 63:03 mark when Megan Luke played a ball to Carrie Talbert who ripped a 25-yard shot past Ross.
The Monarchs(5-9-0, 3-3-0 USA South) looked to be in prime position to take an early 1-0 lead in the first half when Junior
Lisa Paschal dispossessed a Meredith player and found herself one-on-one with the keeper, only to see her shot slide just left of goal.
Ross finished with eight saves for the Monarchs, who were out-shot 14-8. Kelsey Hopper started and played the first 72:33 in goal for the Avenging Angels, making one save. Shyanne Stone played the final 17:27 and made one save as well.
Methodist returns to the pitch on Oct. 13 when it hosts LaGrange at 2:00 pm.
