Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Both teams suffered from poor shooting and multiple turnovers, but the Methodist women's basketball team outlasted Mary Baldwin 45-36.
It was slow going through the first 10 minutes with the Squirrels taking the 7-3 lead. Methodist came back and went on a 9-0 run to lead by five with 6:53 remaining in the first half. The game was tied again at 14 before the Monarchs went up 20-15 at the break.
Mary Baldwin cut the lead to one on two different occasions in the second half, but Methodist maintained their lead. The Squirrels trailed just 36-33 with 3:36 on the clock, but the Monarchs finished on a 9-3 run with four points from
Christina Schrader, a dagger three from
Courtney Woods and a quick layup from
Iesha Hayes for the 45-36 win.
Woods led the team with 13 points while
Jackie Lyles had 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Shanice Miles had 16 points for Mary Baldwin.
Methodist will be on the road this week beginning with a 7 p.m. contest at Peace College on Wednesday.
