KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The Methodist softball team wrapped up spring break at the Rebel Games with another split. The Monarchs knocked off Westminster 8-3 and lost 3-2 to Catholic.
In the first game of the day, Methodist jumped out to an early lead. They scored first in the second inning when
Marcy McKee singled and and went onto score on
Alex Winters' single.
Katie Byrd and
Ally Griffin singled to set up
Marcy McKee's RBI double in the third inning. The Monarchs added another run in the fourth after Jordan Adam's lead-off single and Byrd hit the sacrifice fly.
Erica Bradley and
Jordan Adams drew walks in the fifth before
Megan Lee and
Krista Zentner picked up RBI to give Methodist the 5-0 lead.
Westminster picked up three runs on four hits in the bottom of the fifth, but the Monarchs came right back with a run in the sixth and two in the seventh to earn the 8-3 win.
McKee went 4-for-5 at the plate and Byrd was 2-for-3. Adams was 2-for-3. Methodist finished with 17 hits.
Jessica Farmer pitched the complete game scattering seven hits with two strikeouts.
Methodist took the early lead in game two, but Catholic staged a seventh inning comeback to win 3-2. Tippett hit the RBI single in the first inning to score Adams and the Monarchs went ahead 2-0 in the fifth when Zentner singled and moved around the bases before scoring on a passed ball.
Catholic had bases loaded in the sixth, but the Monarchs got out of the inning with a groundout. The Cardinals came back and put together four hits in the seventh while capitalizing on a Methodist error to tally the game-winning runs. Methodist came up empty in the bottom of the seventh for Catholic to earn the win.
Tippett went 2-for-2 at the plate while McKee and Bradley were both 1-for-2.
Kayla Malone pitched the complete game with six hits and eight strikeouts.
Methodist will be back in action on Wednesday when they host Peace College at 5 p.m.
