Monarchs Volleyball Posts Pair of 3-0 Wins

MU moves to 6-5 on the season with sweeps of Huntingdon and Salem

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The Methodist volleyball team got back above .500 on the season with a pair of 3-0 wins over Huntingdon and Salem on Saturday afternoon.

The Monarchs (6-5) blanked Huntingdon 25-14, 25-13, 25-19 and followed that with a 25-11, 25-13, 25-17 sweep of Salem.

In the win over Huntingdon, Methodist hit .323 as a team, while limiting the Hawks to a -.016 hitting percentage. The Monarchs also recorded a whopping 20 service aces.

Junior Allison Graves led a balanced Monarch offense with nine kills, while senior Hayley Williams added seven kills on 13 attempts for a .538 hitting percentage. Senior Stephanie Wood and junior Risa Smith each added six kills.

Sophomore Ryanne Greer was responsible for seven of MU's 20 aces, while junior Kendra Krupp added four aces to go with her 31 assists. Wood and Graves each netted three aces and Smith and freshman Karly Klimas each posted a team-best seven digs.

In the Monarchs' sweep of Salem, MU hit .361 as a team and held the Spirits to a .000 hitting percentage. Methodist also continued its strong service game with 14 aces.

Wood led the offense with a match-high 10 kills on just 14 swings, while Smith, Graves and Williams all added seven kills. Greer bettered her service numbers from the first match, posting eight service aces in the win.

Smith led the defense with 13 digs, while Klimas added seven to go with two aces. Krupp once again directed the offense, racking up 33 assists.

The Monarchs return to action on Tuesday when they travel to N.C. Wesleyan for a 7:00 pm match.
