Monarchs Blank Spirts, 3-0, in Volleyball

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Methodist volleyball team ran its winning streak to six consecutive matches on Wednesday evening with a convincing 3-0 win over Salem at the Riddle Center.
The win moved the Monarchs to 9-5 on the season with the 25-11, 25-11, 25-17 win, while the Spirits slipped to 3-6 on the year.
Methodist hit .457 as a team while limiting the Spirits to a hitting percentage of .080 and the Monarchs recorded 10 service aces as a team compared to two for Salem.
Senior Stephanie Wood and junior Allison Graves and Risa Smith led MU with nine kills apiece and the trio combined to hit .519 (27 kills/3 errors/52 attempts). Junior Brittany McCoy added eight kills with no errors on 11 attempts (.727) and senior Hayley Williams chipped in four.
Junior Kendra Krupp directed the Monarchs' highly-efficient offense, totaling a team-best 27 assists. Freshman Karly Klimas led the defense with 14 digs and Smith chipped in eight. Sophomore Ryanne Greer had four the 10 Monarch service aces and Smith contributed three.
The Spirits were led by Kelsey Defosse, who had a team-high seven kills, and Roslyn Nixon chipped in four. Katie O'Leary and Zy Henderson each had a team-high eight digs and Chelsea Jones added 15 assists and two service aces.
The Monarchs return to action on Saturday when they take on Southern Virginia and Hollins at Hollins University beginning at 2:00 pm.
