Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Methodist women's soccer team fell to Christopher Newport, 1-0, at the Monarch Soccerplex on Saturday afternoon.

CNU's Carly Utterback broke a scoreless tie in the 52^nd minute off a feed from Chelsea Wolfe for the game's only goal in a tightly-contested match.

The Monarchs, playing without leading goal scorer Kristin Habig, were outshot 23-4 for the game, but freshman goalkeeper Taylor Ross kept the Monarchs in the contest, coming up with nine saves on the day. She was especially strong in the opening 45:00 as the Captains totaled 14 shots and she made seven of her saves to keep the game a 0-0 contest at the break.

Meghan Gumbs played all 90:00 in goal for the Captains and made two saves to earn the clean sheet.

The Monarchs are back in action on Sunday when the host Mary Baldwin at 2:00 pm at the Monarch Soccerplex.
