Methodist Volleyball Runs Winning Streak to 8 With Pair of Wins

ROANOKE, Va. – The Methodist volleyball team ran its winning streak to eight matches with a pair of wins on Saturday afternoon at Hollins University.

The Monarchs, who are now 11-5 on the season swept Southern Virginia, 3-0 (25-11, 25-15, 25-23), then dispatched Hollins, 3-1 (25-14, 25-22, 21-25, 25-15), to move a season-high six games above .500.

In the opening win over SVU, junior Allison Graves led a balanced Monarch offense with 10 kills and hit .556. Juniors Brittany McCoy and Risa Smith each totaled nine kills and senior Stephanie Wood chipped in six. Junior Kendra Krupp totaled 31 assists.

Graves also led the defense with 10 digs, while Krupp and freshman Karly Klimas totaled nine apiece.

Larissa Conger led the Knights with 8 kills. Jordan Geist registered a match-high 16 digs and Katelynn Tlustek had 20 assists.

In the Monarchs' final match of the day, Wood continued her torrid play of late with 15 kills and a .636 hitting percentage. Smith added 12 kills and senior Hayley Williams chipped in 11 kills for the Monarch offense Krupp directed the offense to the tune of 43 assists and Wood added five service aces.

Defensively, freshman Karly Klimas posted a match-high 19 digs, while Smith and Graves reached double digits in digs with 11 and 10, respectively. Wood rounded out her match with five digs and five blocks, including four solo efforts.

Ally Reed led HU with 19 kills and 11 digs. Lauren Hays added 10 kills and Haley Ortiz totaled seven kills and matched Reed's 11 digs. Lela Moore had 34 assists.

The Monarchs return to action when they play host to N.C. Wesleyan on Wednesday at 7:00 pm.
