Habig's Hat Trick Not Enough as Monarchs Fall in OT, 5-4, at St. Mary's

Box Score ST. MARY'S Md. – Senior Kristin Habig netted a hat trick and the Methodist women's soccer team rallied from a 4-2 second-half deficit to force overtime before eventually falling, 5-4, in the first overtime to St. Mary's on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Monarchs (1-3) started the game off quickly, taking a 2-0 lead before four minutes had elapsed. Habig began the scoring when she scored following a pass from junior Lisa Paschal just 2:17 into the contest. Then, following an MU corner kick, the Monarchs were the beneficiary of a St. Mary's own goal at the 3:47 mark for an early 2-0 cushion.
 
However, St. Mary's scored four unanswered goals to go up 4-2 early in the second period. The Seahawks started the barrage at the 10:01 mark when Johann Rambo scored off a feed from Liz Mosher to half the Monarchs' lead.
 
At the 14:18 mark Yvonne Latour converted a penalty kick to draw St. Mary's even at 2-2 and Kim LaBarge gave the Seahawks their first lead, 3-2, at the 20:40 mark when she scored off an assist from Rambo.
 
In the second period, St. Mary's extended its lead to 4-2 at the 51:15 mark as LaBarge netted her second goal of the contest.
 
The Monarchs' comeback began at the 69:20 mark when Habig scored unassisted to pull Methodist within a single goal at 4-3. With under seven minutes to play, Habig completed her hat trick when she scored off an assist from senior Brooke Corley to level the match at 4-4 at the 83:23 mark.
 
In the first overtime period, the Seahawks wasted no time as LaBarge netted her third goal for a hat trick of her own just 1:04 into overtime and lift the St. Mary's the 5-4 win.
 
St. Mary's owned a 16-6 advantage in shots. Junior Sarah Hayden started in goal for Methodist and played the opening 45:00. She allowd three goals and made one save. Freshman Taylor Ross played the final 46:04 and allowed two goals while making three saves. Kelsey Wirtz played all 91:04 for St. Mary's and allowed four goals with two saves.
 
Methodist returns to action on Wednesday when they host Mary Washington at 4:30 pm.
