WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Methodist volleyball team finished up play at the CUA Invitational with a 2-2 overall record following Saturday's split of a pair of matches. The Monarchs defeated Randolph College, 3-2, and then fell to Marymount, 3-0.
MU (3-5) raced out to a two sets to none lead against Randolph by winning the first two sets, 25-22, 25-19. However, the WildCats came storming back and took sets three and four by scores of 29-27 and 25-17, before the Monarchs took the fifth and decisive set, 15-9.
The Monarchs were led by a balanced effort both offensively and defensively as three different players reached double digits in kills and five players recorded at least 10 digs.
Junior
Risa Smith led the way with 13 kills, while also adding 13 digs. Senior
Stephanie Wood and junior
Allison Graves each totaled 12 kills and Graves contributed 13 digs.
Junior
Kendra Krupp also came up with 13 digs to add to her 44 assists. Freshman
Karly Klimas added 12 digs and sophomore
Ryanne Greer added 10 digs in the win.
Against Marymount, Methodist fell in straight sets, 25-21, 25-16, 25-15.
Graves posted a team-best seven kills and Smith totaled six kills and picked up 14 digs. Senior
Hayley Williams and Wood each contributed five kills. Williams also added three blocks and Wood two.
Klimas added a team-high 15 digs and Krupp racked up 22 assists.
At the conclusion of play, Wood was named to the All-Tournament team.
The Monarchs return to action on Thursday when they host Peace in their home opener at 7:00 pm.
