Huneycutt and Robinson Lead Monarchs Over Pride, 61-49

Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Emily Huneycutt notched a new career-high with 23 points and Brianna Robinson came within one rebound of tying the school's single-game record as the Methodist women's basketball team defeated Greensboro, 61-49, on Wednesday evening at the Riddle Center.
 
Huneycutt knocked down a single-game record-tying 6-of-11 shots from behind the arc and 8-of-16 shots overall as she eclipsed her previous career-best of 21 points set earlier this season. Robinson grabbed a career-high 21 rebounds, falling just short of the school record of 22 set by Sonja Mixon in 1986.
 
Both teams started slow as MU held a 7-2 lead nearly five minutes into the contest when Huneycutt began her three-point barrage. Eight straight points from Huneycutt gave the Monarchs a 16-8 lead by the 9:31 mark. After the Pride pulled to within four points, back-to-back threes by Iesha Hayes and T.T. Taylor gave the Monarchs a 22-12 lead with 4:35 to play in the first half and MU took a 29-18 lead into the break.
 
In the second half, the Monarchs extended their lead to as many as 17 (41-24) with 14:04 to play before Greensboro pulled to within seven points (49-42) following an 18-8 scoring run. For straight free throws from Taylor, followed by a free throw by Robinson allowed Methodist to push back out to a 12-point lead (54-42) with 5:54 to play as the Monarchs cruised to the win.
 
Greensboro was limited to just 27.8 percent shooting (15-54) for the game while Methodist hit on 31.7 percent (19-60) of its shots from the floor. MU was aided by 10-of-22 shooting (.455) from beyond the arc and held a 48-43 edge on the glass.
 
In addition to Huneycutt's 23 points, Hayes added 12 points and four steals  and Robinson chipped in six points and six assists. Taylor finished with seven points, three steals, two assists, and two blocks.
 
Greensboro was led by Bianca Richburg, who finished with 18 points and 13 rebounds but shot just 6-of-24 from the field and 6-of-11 from the line. Chevena Pickard added 11 points and seven boards before fouling out and Jena Cabe had 10 points and six rebounds.
 
The Monarchs are back in action on Saturday when the play at Meredith at 2:00 pm.
