Methodist Downs Peace, 68-49, in Women's Basketball

Box Score RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Methodist women's basketball team rode a 20-point halftime lead to a 69-49 win at William Peace on Wednesday evening.
 
After Peace took an early 3-2 lead in the contest, the Monarchs strung together a 16-6 scoring outburst to assume a 19-8 lead on a pair of free throws from Christina Schrader at the 12:57 mark. The Monarch lead grew to 16 points (28-12) after Brianna Robinson made a layup at the 5:31 mark MU continue to build on its lead as T.T. Taylor's layup with two seconds left in the half gave the Monarchs a 38-18 lead at halftime.
 
A late run by the Pacers midway through the second half trimmed their deficit to just 10 points by the 6:18 mark after a Crystal Alston bucket. However, Schrader answered with five consecutive points to pad MU's lead to 15 with 3:50 left and the Monarchs cruised to the win.
 
For the game, the Monarchs shot 47.3 percent from the floor (26-55) and 65.0 percent (13-20) from the free throw line while limiting the Pacers to 30.2 percent shooting (16-53). The Monarchs also forced Peace into 31 turnovers and held a 40-37 edge on the glass.
 
Schrader led all scorers with 19 points on 7-of-12 shooting. Emily Huneycutt added 11 points and Taylor finished with 10 points, nine rebounds, six assists and five steals.
 
Krystal Williams led the Pacers with 18 points, but was held to 4-of-14 shooting. Alston added 10 points and five steals, and Derrica Jones added nine points, a game-high 10 boards and two steals.
 
The Monarchs return to action on Saturday when they host LaGrange at 2:00 pm.
