Methodist Women's Soccer Routs Mary Baldwin, 7-1

Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Methodist women's soccer team relied on five first-half goals and a hat trick by Deycasha Miller to defeat visiting Mary Baldwin, 7-1, on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Monarchs (7-6-2, 4-3-1 USA South) scored on their first three shots in this conference matchup to take a 3-0 lead by the eighth minute of the first half.
 
In the fourth minute, Jessie Oder sent a corner kick toward the Fighting Squirrels' (5-10-0, 0-10-0 USA South) goal, which Taylor Cavazos converted into a score, putting MU ahead, 1-0. Less than two minutes later, Miller tallied a goal on a breakaway, making it 2-0 at the 5:07 mark. Methodist later got on the board again as Katie Pedersen's shot bounced off Mary Baldwin goalkeeper Erin Dullahan's hands and rolled into the goal, giving the Monarchs a 3-0 edge at the 7:12 mark.
 
The Fighting Squirrels would notch their lone goal of the day in the 22nd minute when Mayzie Lewis took advantage of a scrum in front of the Methodist goal and kicked a shot past MU goalkeeper Sarah Hayden, cutting the Monarchs' lead to 3-1.
 
In the 27th minute, Cavazos chipped a pass upfield to a sprinting Miller, who then dribbled several yards before finding the back of the net to make it a 4-1 game. Following a foul against Mary Baldwin, Gabby Wentling scored on a penalty kick at the 29:50 mark to extend Methodist's lead to 5-1, which it carried into the break at halftime.
 
In the second half, Miller dribbled from near midfield to the Fighting Squirrels' goal and kicked a shot off the far side post and into the goal, giving her three goals and MU a 6-1 edge in the 54th minute. To cap the day's scoring, Caity Clarke converted on a penalty kick at the 64:36 mark.
 
Methodist's Hayden earned the win, making zero saves in the first half. Taylor Ross relieved Hayden for the second half and also had no saves. MBC's Dullhan took the loss, stopping four shots.
 
The Monarchs will close out their non-conference schedule when they travel to play Chowan on Wednesday for a 3:30 pm matchup.
