Methodist Women’s Basketball Edges Emory & Henry, 81-73

Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Facing a five-point deficit at the intermission, the Methodist women's basketball team emerged victorious against visiting Emory & Henry, 81-73, on Tuesday night at the Riddle Center.
 
E&H (2-2) stretched its edge to eight points in the second half as Karina Farr sank two free throws at the 16:34 mark (50-42). But MU (3-1) hung around and eventually claimed the lead, 55-53, on Monique Lofton's three-pointer with 12:45 on the clock. The Wasps, however, charged right back with six unanswered points, including two layups by Kristie Langley and two more successful free throws by Farr. At the 11:04 mark, Emory & Henry found itself back in the lead (59-55). Methodist countered with six straight points of its own to wrestle back a two-point advantage with 9:57 remaining (61-59). The Monarchs would close out the evening by scoring 18 of the game's final 28 points, including Allison Dones' bank shot of a three-pointer with 39 seconds left and the shot clock winding down. That trey gave Methodist some breathing room (78-71).
 
During the first half, Methodist hung with Emory & Henry, keeping the game tied with 4:50 left in the period (26-26). The Wasps, however, concluded the opening period by sinking seven of their final 10 shots from the floor to exit with the lead, 42-37. In the first half, E&H converted 61.5 percent of its field goal attempts (16-26) and forced 16 MU turnovers.
 
Maya Banks led Methodist with 18 points and also chipped in six rebounds, three assists and three steals. Ayanna Pegues totaled 14 points and six rebounds, and Jackie Lyles had 11 points, seven rebounds and five steals. Chandler Christensen posted 10 points.
 
Langley scored a game-high 20 points in addition to four rebounds and three steals. However, she also turned over the ball eight times. Farr finished with 16 points and five boards, and Megan Jacoby had 13 points and six rebounds. Anna Green totaled 10 points, four rebounds and three steals.
 
Methodist will return from the Thanksgiving break when it plays host to Lynchburg on Dec. 3. The opening tip is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
