DANVILLE, Va. -- The Methodist women's volleyball team opened its 2013 season with a pair of wins at Averett University on Saturday afternoon.

The Monarchs (2-0) opened the day with a 3-1 (25-23, 25-20, 20-25, 25-21) win over Guilford before rallying from a 2-0 deficit to knock off Hollins, 3-2 (26-28, 19-15, 25-21, 25-20, 15-12).

In the win over the Quakers, Risa Smith led a balanced offensive attack with 19 kills and a robust hitting percentage of .421. She also contributed 17 assists. Emily Krochmal, playing in her first collegiate match, added 14 kills and Allison Graves totaled 13 kills. Emily Hester handled the bulk of the setting duties, picking up 29 assists and Ryanne Greer posted a team-best five service aces.

Defensively, Graves led five players in double-digit digs with 18. Karly Klimas, Krochmal, Smith and Greer added 10 apiece.

In Methodist's final match of the day, MU came out sluggish in dropping the first two sets before rallying for the come-from-behind win.

Graves led the offense in the second match with 22 kills to go with 12 digs and three service aces. Smith turned in a solid all-around performance with 24 assists, 15 kills and 10 digs for a triple double. Krochmal added 13 kills and 10 digs for her second double-double of the day.

Hester contributed 24 assists in the win and Klimas came up with a team-high 17 digs.

The Monarchs are back in action on Sunday beginning at 12:15 pm when they take on Austin, followed by a 4:30 pm match against William Peace.
