Box Score 2 DANVILLE, Va. -- The Methodist volleyball team dropped a pair of contests on the second day of the Averett Invitational on Sunday afternoon. The Monarchs fell to Austin, 3-0, before dropping a 3-2 match to William Peace.

In the loss to Austin, the Monarchs (2-2) dropped a tightly-contested first set, 26-24, before Austin won the final two sets, 25-18, 25-9.
Allison Graves led the offense with 10 kills, while
Risa Smith and
Emily Hester contributed 14 and 12 assists, respectively.
Ryanne Greer added eight digs.

The Monarchs let a two-set lead slip away in falling to the Pacers to close out the day. MU took the first set, 25-22, and the second set 25-20. WPU began its rally with a 25-21 win in the third set and evened the match with a 25-20 win in the fourth set before sealing the match with a 15-11 win in the decisive fifth set.

Emily Krochmal had 10 kills, 10 digs and seven service aces to lead Methodist. Smith had 12 kills and 19 assists, while
Allison Graves chipped in 15 kills.

Emily Hester had 16 assists,
Karly Klimas had 17 digs and Greer had six service aces.

Smith was named to the All-Tournament team at the conclusion of the tournament.

The Monarchs are back in action against St. Mary's (Md.) at the Hollins Invitational on Friday at 5:00 pm.
